A.D.L is proud to announce that we have been shortlisted to the final three for manufacturing business of the year for the forthcoming North Tyneside Small Business of the Year Awards.
The annual awards ceremony will be held on the 3rd of April at the Village Hotel, North Tyneside.
Frank Lott, North Tyneside Council's cabinet member for Economy and Employment, said: "These awards are a great opportunity to highlight the hard work and successes of our small firms. They honour the innovation local businesses have shown in defiance of current economic troubles and reward the efforts of those who have succeeded in spite of these difficulties."

The One Northeast funded experts, with a proven track record in business support, have started working with our team, along with a number of other SME’s in the region, on ways to increase efficiency across the entire control process.

We have brought them in to analyse the needs of the warehouse processes, inventory management, production planning, product delivery, supplier performances and project management; before delivering solutions and proposing new logistic initiatives to our staff.

During these difficult times, with the economic slowdown affecting many businesses, it is good to have a local success story to celebrate.
Last Friday I had the opportunity of visiting Architectural doorsets Ltd, which is based in a factory unit on the North Tyne Industrial Estate in Benton.
Just over a year ago, managing director Ross Butler and his father moved to North Tyneside. Their company manufactures doorsets for buildings.
Most of their work is for major projects like hotels, schools and hospitals.
Like everyone else, they are concerned about the impact of what is taking place in the world’s financial system and the impact it will have
on what happens in our own country. However, their strategy of providing a high-quality product, on time and giving value for money is one
which keeps the customer satisfied. It is this focus on giving added value that has lessons right across manufacturing.
Shining Example : Left - Ross Butler of Architectural Doorsets Ltd ,MP Stephen Byers and Steve Hancock of BM Trada.
I know there has been concern for many years now about the state of the manufacturing sector in the United Kingdom. We have to recognise that over the years not enough has been done to both reflect the importance of manufacturing and the vital role it plays in regions like ours in the North East. In this context, business doesn’t want the government to interfere and dictate. What they do want is a stable economic framework, with inflation and interest rates at a reasonable level.
They also want support for the raising of the standard of skills and, where appropriate, backing for research, development and innovation.
In the North East we still have great strength in manufacturing – whether it be small businesses like Architectural Doorsets or major international players like Nissan in Sunderland. Now is the time to play to these strengths and ensure a positive future for manufacturing, even in these difficult times.
